Why scientists are tyrants and can’t be trusted

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 by Wadical Weft

Here is some contempt from the people who brought you the atomic bomb, supergerms, and the worst pollutants ever seen by humans:

“The democratic process relies on the assumption that citizens (the majority of them, at least) can recognize the best political candidate, or best policy idea, when they see it. But a growing body of research has revealed an unfortunate aspect of the human psyche that would seem to disprove this notion, and imply instead that democratic elections produce mediocre leadership and policies.

The research, led by David Dunning, a psychologist at Cornell University, shows that incompetent people are inherently unable to judge the competence of other people, or the quality of those people’s ideas. For example, if people lack expertise on tax reform, it is very difficult for them to identify the candidates who are actual experts. They simply lack the mental tools needed to make meaningful judgments.”  Full Turd

EdMoot Agenda

Edit/comment at will

“Accomplishing” something with ‘moots. I propose this be publishing the KK summary and the to-be-written Energy Landscape documents in a format that scholar.google.com accepts as scholarly.

Gratuitous or articulate critique of the KK summary.

Discuss Baloney artifacts that might be created to place our spin/memes “out there” in some subtle way that is not just entraining ourselves in the ridiculous side of public discourse.

2000 Watt society. Rocket stoves. Solar cookers. Rural technium. SIPs. Earthships. PV. Energy Landscape rant and axes for description.

Another Monster.Com security breach

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 by Wadical Weft

Based on some email tricks of mine, it appears that Monster.Com has had another security breach.

Screw Jove, free the truth.

I want to state my anger at my inability to get to the peer reviewed videos on Jove.  I’m not adding a link to it because it would be a waste of your time.  When I was sent the link, I was very excited because of the great information there, but shortly afterwards, they closed access to the public.  There is no way to subscribe and you must be part of some scientist tyrant organization to gain access.

Many people have paid taxes so scientist tyrants could be educated in public universities and often the only reward for that is to be looked down upon and told what to do.

Watch out for the gubmint when Facebook goes public

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 by Wadical Weft

I’m developing an opinion that Facebook could be declared an abusive monopoly because it has more high quality logon accounts than any other company and is signing exclusive agreements to provide logon services to websites.  For example, to comment on most articles in Seattle’s “news” website http://seattlepi.com, a Facebook account is required.  Same at the Federal Way Mirror.

To free speech types, there is a huge drop in website comments when facebook logons are required.
